Queensland Preparing Interpreters Project

Scholarship Program for Queensland Interpreters of Languages in Demand

NAATI and AUSIT have come together to offer a training fund to support access by practising or potential interpreters to an online course until a full face-to-face Diploma of Interpreting can be delivered in Queensland.

Training interpreters is the key to overcoming these barriers; however, Queensland, unlike other states in Australia, provides face-to-face interpreting training only in Mandarin and Japanese.

The QPI (Queensland Preparing Interpreters) Project aims to provide a pathway for successful candidates to access the necessary training and a NAATI certification that will enable them to possess the requisite skills to respond to the needs of CALD individuals in Queensland.

AUSIT and NAATI will be offering twenty scholarships to participate in a 10-week Interpreting Skills for NAATI Certification Training Online Course with TAFE SA or RMIT for intake in September 2020. Upon completion of the Online Course and receiving a pass grade, applicants will be required to sit the NAATI Certified Practicing Interpreter (CPI) test or apply for Recognition.

Deadline and Course Dates

The deadline for submission is 23:59 AEST May 31st, 2020.

The course will be run online for 10 weeks by TAFE SA and RMIT.
The start date is Monday 14th September, ending Friday 27th November 2020.
