Message from the Chair

Despite easing restrictions across Australia and the globe, we are still living in challenging times.

The continuing impact of COVID-19 on our services, and our staff, has necessitated new ways of thinking about how we do business and how we continue to operate effectively in this new reality.

And, most importantly, how we support T&I professionals.

With that in mind, I am pleased to announce that the NAATI Board has agreed to some fundamental short-term changes to assist T&I practitioners.

For the period 1 April 2020 to 30 June 2021, the following changes will apply:

  • 50 percent reduction in recertification fee, and
  • Practitioners will only need two-thirds of the usual professional development and work practice requirements to recertify during this period.

For those practitioners that have already paid recertification fees in April, they will receive a 50 percent refund of their fees. Contact us directly at info@naati.com.au for related questions or more information.

Operationally, the NAATI team continues to work remotely, and all offices will remain closed until 30 June. This means that all our offices and your contacts within NAATI are still reachable by telephone and email.

These arrangements are working well and, one of the best examples is the recent launch of our new website, providing a refreshed look and much easier navigation.

As foreshadowed in my March update, non-Certification testing has commenced with online delivery and all currently scheduled candidates are being contacted to organise a time to take their test.

Work has also progressed on examiner recruitment and training and certification test development as a means of meeting our core mission to increase the number of certified translators and interpreters in our community. We hope to have online solutions for some Certification tests within the coming months.

In closing, I would like to thank both NAATI staff and the many T&I professionals for your continued support and commitment to our goal of a connected community without language barriers.

Voula Messimeri AM
