Remote simultaneous interpreting in investigative interviews: The effect of language and interpreter training on deception detection, interpreting accuracy and witness credibility.
This study tests an intervention to familiarise interpreters with police interviewing strategies. All interpreters will have an opportunity to participate in an online training course and will participate in a live zoom police interviewing session with a role-playing witness. Findings will assist interviewing practitioners to make evidence-based decisions about risks and benefits of video-link interpreting and simultaneous vs consecutive interpreting modes. Dates of each interview are to be determined, but will start in November and will continue until we have completed approximately 200 interpreted interviews. Total participation time will be around 3 hours. Interpreters will earn PD points, and will receive a $100 gift card for their time. We require NAATI certified interpreters for Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. A recruitment notice can be viewed here.
Data collection will commence in 2022. Expressions of interest are still open.
