Survey: Navigating New Frontiers in Translation: The Dynamics of Human-AI Collaboration within Australia’s Translation Profession

About the project

This project is being undertaken as part of Doctor of Philosophy project through the University of Southern
Queensland. The purpose of this project is to explore the systemic interaction between human translators and Artificial Intelligence technologies, specifically focusing on the evolution of translator roles and the identification of future skills required in the translation industry. 

Participation

Your participation will involve completion of an online questionnaire that will take approximately 9 minutes of your time. 

Questions will include: 

  1. How do NAATI-registered translators in Australia perceive their interactions with AI-driven machine translation technologies, and what insights do these interactions provide on the existing human-machine dynamics within the industry? 
  2. Following the integration of AI technologies, how have the roles and responsibilities shifted for professional translators in Australia?
  3. In the context of AI integration, which skills and competencies have shifted in their relevance for the Australian translators?
  4. What are the projected essential skills and competencies for NAATI-registered translators to effectively navigate and excel in the evolving AI-enhanced translation industry? 

Your participation in this project is entirely voluntary. If you do not wish to take part, you are not obliged to. If you decide to take part and later change your mind, you are free to withdraw from the project at any stage. You may also request that any data collected about you be withdrawn and confidentially destroyed.
