Translators and interpreters are invited to participate in a research study being conducted at the University of Melbourne by PhD Candidate Rachel Macreadie supervised by Professor Anthony Pym and Professor Reine Meylaerts.
About the study
This study aims to improve how translations are provided for culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Melbourne. It is part of a joint doctorate at the University of Melbourne and KU Leuven in Belgium.
Participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire about public communication as well as translation policy and practice in Melbourne. The questionnaire will take about 15-20 minutes. No background knowledge is needed. The data will be analysed and written up in a doctoral thesis, academic publications and conference presentations. There will also be a project website with general information about the project.
What are the possible benefits?
You are encouraged to talk about your experience and concerns. This may be an opportunity for you to talk about issues you have, to flag the support your community needs, or to propose suggestions for improving communications for culturally diverse communities. The information gained from this study will help policymakers and practitioners better understand the communication needs of culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
