Expression of Interest
Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) is offering paid positions to bilingual individuals to create podcasts of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) Queenslanders living with a disability. We are seeking Arabic, Sudanese Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Samoan, Persian, Dari and Hazaragi speakers for this round. Podcast training will be provided. Direct or indirect lived experience of disability and experience with CALD communities is essential.
About the role
ECCQ is looking for bilingual people to make podcasts. The work is to conduct interviews and record stories about how people in Queensland live well with a disability.
They are looking for people who are well connected in CALD communities and are passionate about the human rights of people living with a disability.
They especially encourage people with lived experience of disability to express their interest in this role.
The role involves 84 hours delivered over 17 weeks. The first four weeks are devoted to training you for the role.
Positions starting June 2021 are available.
Successful candidates will be paid to complete the ‘Speak My Language’ (SML) training and must demonstrate the following:
- Strong prospects for delivering the output of SML: podcasts
- Fluency in both English and the community language
- Understand the influences and sensitivities in relation to people with disabilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Connections in the CALD community
- Understand how Privacy, Duty of Care and Conflict of Interest relates to the role
- Good file management skills and an ability to use password protected on-line forms
About Speak My Language (SML)
SML will deliver podcasts. SML involves CALD community members with disabilities, and their supporters, sharing real stories and experiences, via podcast, broadcast and online in various languages. The stories will be about living well with a disability, and they will inform people about skills and resources available in the community to support people to live well.
Additional interviews with guest speakers will give accurate and up-to-date information about further opportunities in the community. Together, the podcasts, broadcasts or videos will provide practical tips on utilising personal skills and talents, and community resources and networks to live well with disability – at home, in the community and at work or school.
SML is a national initiative that will be delivered across Australia over 2021 and 2022. Ethnic Communities Council Queensland is delivering the program in Queensland. Partners are the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW (lead agency) and all the State and Territory Ethnic and Multicultural Communities’ Councils around Australia. Broadcasting partners are SBS and NEMBC.
