COVID-19 Information for Candidates
NAATI has been conducting in-person Certified Provisional Interpreter (CPI) and Certified Interpreter (CI) testing in all states except Victoria since early July.
Due to travel and movement restrictions in Melbourne, NAATI has developed an online version of the CPI and CI test which is available for spoken language candidates. Online testing in Melbourne will be the only option available to candidates until 31 October 2020. Candidates currently booked into a Melbourne test will be contacted directly by the local office to discuss the revised testing process and will be given the option to take the online test or reschedule to a future date once restrictions have eased. At this time, Auslan testing is not available and candidates will be contacted to reschedule their test date.
If further COVID-19 restrictions are introduced in other states, the online testing option may be introduced. Candidates will be contacted where this is required.
Please accept that NAATI is doing all it can to ensure that candidates are well informed and able to take a test in a fair and timely manner, however the rapidly changing nature of COVID-19 restrictions and precautions may lead to schedule and venue changes with short notice. NAATI’s preference is to test in a face-to-face format, we are unable to test both in-person and online from a single venue on one day. Where there are spaces available online from our Melbourne office, interstate candidates who wish to take an online test may be able to be booked into these sessions.
Due to the challenges of maintaining social distancing in Certified Translator (CT) testing, we have developed an online testing platform with test dates launching from 22 September 2020. Eligible CT candidates have been contacted. Joining instructions including mock tests for equipment testing will be made available approximately two weeks prior to test day. Candidates are expected to take the test in their own home, or other suitable environment. Further information can be found on our website.
For CCL
candidates, NAATI has been conducting online testing since April. This has
been very successful with over 5,500 candidates tested thus far. To allow
our test venues to be used for Certification tests we have made the decision
that all future CCL tests will be conducted online.
NAATI is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all staff and candidates during in-person testing.
We request that:
- If you have been in contact with someone who has the virus or;
- If you are feeling unwell and have flu-like symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath);
You do not attend your scheduled test session. If you present to your test session with flu-like symptoms you will be asked by a NAATI staff member to leave the premises and reschedule the test.
For Certification candidates who may not be able to take their test in-person due to illness, NAATI has updated its rescheduling and cancellation policy. Candidates that have flu-like symptoms have until 8am on the day of the test to reschedule, with no charge. Please contact info@naati.com.au. When attending any NAATI
testing venue, we ask that you follow NAATI’s health and safety
measures to protect our staff and candidates which includes:
- Social distancing instructions
- Regular washing of hands with soap and water (for at least 20 seconds)
- The use of supplied hand sanitisers at the testing sites
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, and
- Ensuring that you sneeze or cough by covering your mouth with your elbow (or coughing directly into a tissue)
If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend your test.
